HEALTH TECH ENTERPRISE UNVEILS NEW OWNERSHIP MODEL AFTER TWO DECADES OF NHS INNOVATION

HEALTH TECH ENTERPRISE GIVES EMPLOYEES STAKE IN BUSINESS AS IT TARGETS NEXT PHASE OF GROWTH
Healthcare innovation consultancy Health Tech Enterprise has introduced employee share options and an NHS Advisory Board as part of a new ownership structure designed to underpin its next stage of expansion.
Health Tech Enterprise has unveiled a new ownership structure that will give employees the opportunity to share directly in the future value of the healthcare consultancy as it enters its 21st year.
The company, which specialises in NHS market access, health economics and technology commercialisation, said the restructuring is intended to strengthen employee participation while creating a platform for its long-term growth.
Co-founders Anne Blackwood and Max Bardwell will remain at the helm of the business, alongside a third co-founder who will take on the role of Director of Technology Commercialisation.
The Health Tech Enterprise brand will also remain unchanged, with the company saying there will be no alteration to its services, existing client relationships or day-to-day operations.
EMPLOYEES GIVEN A SHARE IN FUTURE GROWTH
A significant element of the new structure is the introduction of an employee share option pool.
The scheme will enable members of the Health Tech Enterprise team to benefit financially from the company’s future success, while also supporting its strategy for attracting and retaining specialist talent.
For a consultancy operating at the intersection of the NHS, healthcare innovation and technology commercialisation, retaining expertise can be particularly important as the business seeks to scale without weakening the specialist knowledge on which its client relationships are built.
Dr Anne Blackwood, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Health Tech Enterprise, said: “As we enter our 21st year, this feels like the natural next step in our evolution. Our success has always been built on the expertise, commitment and passion of our team, and we wanted a structure that reflects that contribution while supporting our future ambitions.”
She added: “Importantly, this is not a change in direction. Our clients will continue to work with the same trusted team and receive the same high-quality support they have come to expect. What changes is that more people within the business now have the opportunity to share in the value we create together.”
NHS ADVISORY BOARD ADDED TO GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE
Health Tech Enterprise is also introducing an NHS Advisory Board comprising representatives from NHS organisations that work with the consultancy.
The board is intended to ensure that client perspectives continue to influence the company’s direction while reinforcing its relationships across the wider healthcare innovation ecosystem.
The combination of employee participation and NHS representation creates an interesting governance model for the company’s next phase: staff gain a greater economic interest in its growth while NHS stakeholders retain a formal channel through which to inform its development.
Kevin McDonnell, Chair of Health Tech Enterprise, said: “Health Tech Enterprise has built an impressive business over the past two decades, combining deep knowledge of the NHS with the commercial expertise needed to help healthcare innovations succeed. This new structure gives us a strong foundation for the next stage of growth while protecting the qualities and relationships that have made the company successful.”
“Giving employees a greater stake in the future of the business is an important part of that. It recognises the contribution of the team and ensures that, as Health Tech Enterprise grows, the people helping to drive that growth can share in its success.”

TWO DECADES IN HEALTHCARE INNOVATION
Founded in 2004, Health Tech Enterprise works with healthcare innovators, NHS organisations and industry partners on bringing new technologies into healthcare markets.
Its work spans market access, health economics, commercialisation and scale-up strategies, addressing a critical stage in the innovation cycle where promising healthcare technologies must move beyond development towards adoption and commercial viability.
During the past two decades, the company has worked with NHS organisations and health technology businesses in the UK and internationally to support the development and uptake of healthcare innovation.
The ownership changes therefore come as the company seeks to preserve continuity while positioning itself for further development.
Rather than presenting the restructuring as a change in strategy, Health Tech Enterprise is positioning it as an evolution of the existing business — widening participation in the value it creates while retaining its leadership, brand and client proposition.
The new ownership structure took effect on 1 August 2026.
