HISTORIC CROUCH END LANDMARK THE QUEENS UNVEILS £150,000 TRANSFORMATION

THE QUEENS REOPENS FOLLOWING £150,000 REFURBISHMENT TO STRENGTHEN ITS POSITION AS A LEADING LONDON GASTROPUB
One of North London’s most architecturally distinctive pubs is preparing to reopen its doors following a £150,000 refurbishment designed to celebrate its Victorian heritage while elevating its growing reputation as a premium dining destination.
The Queens in Crouch End will welcome guests back on 17 June after an extensive restoration programme that carefully preserves the Grade II-listed building’s historic character while enhancing the overall customer experience.
The investment by Urban Pubs & Bars reflects growing demand for hospitality venues capable of combining heritage, community and high-quality food and drink under one roof.
Preserving A Victorian Landmark
Long regarded as one of London’s finest Victorian pubs, The Queens is recognised for its impressive Art Nouveau stained-glass windows, ornate ceilings, decorative plasterwork and traditional dark wood interiors.
Rather than modernising the venue at the expense of its heritage, the refurbishment has focused on restoring and enhancing many of the original features that have made the building a local landmark for generations.
Located in the heart of Crouch End, the pub has long served as both a neighbourhood gathering place and a destination for visitors seeking one of the capital’s most impressive historic pub interiors.
A Stronger Focus On Modern British Dining
Alongside the restoration comes a renewed emphasis on food, with the venue seeking to establish itself among London’s leading gastropub destinations.
The kitchen remains under the leadership of Chef Bambino, who has spent 14 years building a loyal following at The Queens.
His latest menu focuses on seasonal British ingredients and contemporary interpretations of pub classics.
Signature dishes include monkfish scampi served with tartare and curry sauces, White Cobb half chicken with roasted garlic butter, grilled Cornish mackerel with panzanella, whipped chicken liver parfait with brioche, sour cherries and pickles, and a dessert aptly named “Queens of Puddings”.
Traditional Sunday roasts continue to form a key part of the offer, while the drinks menu features craft beers, premium wines and a selection of cocktails.
Investing In Community And Heritage
The reopening marks another milestone for Urban Pubs & Bars, which has grown significantly since being founded by Nick Pring and Malc Heap in 2014.
The company now operates 66 venues across London, with a strategy focused on preserving individual character while investing in food, drink and local community engagement.
David Campbell, General Manager of The Queens, believes the refurbishment strikes the right balance between preserving the pub’s heritage and enhancing its future appeal.
David Campbell said: “The Queens has always been one of North London’s great historic pubs and this refurbishment has been about respecting that legacy.
“We’ve carefully preserved the beautiful Victorian features that make the building so special while continuing to develop a food offering that gives people another reason to visit.
“Whether guests come for the architecture, a pint, a Sunday roast or a special meal, we want The Queens to remain at the heart of the Crouch End community for many years to come.”
A Timely Reopening For Summer Trade
The reopening coincides with England’s opening World Cup fixture, creating an additional opportunity to attract visitors during one of the busiest seasonal periods for the hospitality sector.
For Urban Pubs & Bars, the investment represents confidence in both London’s pub sector and the enduring appeal of venues that combine character, community and quality hospitality.
As consumers increasingly seek authentic experiences, The Queens appears well positioned to capitalise on growing demand for premium neighbourhood dining in a setting rich with history and architectural significance.
