ROBOTIC SURGERY INNOVATION TAKES CENTRE STAGE AS RIYADH HOSTS GLOBAL SUMMIT

Riyadh Positions Itself as a Global Hub for Robotic Surgery with International Summit

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) will host an international gathering of leading surgeons, policymakers and technology developers next week as Riyadh prepares for the Robotic Surgery Collaboration Summit, an event aimed at defining the next era of surgical innovation.

The summit, taking place from 4 to 6 December, will bring together specialists from across the world to exchange expertise in advanced robotic procedures and explore how emerging technologies are reshaping operating theatres. The programme spans colorectal and upper gastrointestinal surgery, organ transplantation, bariatric surgery, hepatopancreatobiliary procedures, and abdominal wall reconstruction. Delegates will also participate in panel discussions on surgical training, safety, acute care, and procedural innovation, alongside live operative demonstrations.

Much of the event’s focus is on the rapid evolution of surgical technologies. Sessions will examine natural orifice procedures, single-port robotic systems, robotic Whipple techniques for pancreatic disease, and magnetic anastomosis technologies designed to improve tissue healing. Speakers will also assess how intelligent digital applications are being embedded into clinical workflows to enhance precision and patient outcomes.

The summit is expected to attract a broad cross-section of the surgical ecosystem, including department heads, subspecialty surgeons, residents, hospital executives, health-system leaders, AI developers and regulators. The organisers aim to position the event as a global platform for collaboration, accelerating the adoption of robotic surgery and supporting innovation across healthcare disciplines.

KFSHRC’s expanded role in the robotics field aligns with the hospital’s ambition to become the region’s leading centre for specialised care. By hosting major international forums and strengthening professional networks, the hospital is seeking to deepen knowledge exchange and raise the standard of advanced surgical practice across the Kingdom.

The hospital’s growing international profile is reflected in its recent rankings. KFSHRC has been named the top academic medical centre in the Middle East and Africa and fifteenth globally among the world’s leading academic institutions for 2025. It has also been recognised by Brand Finance as the most valuable healthcare brand in Saudi Arabia and the wider region, and is listed in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2025, Best Smart Hospitals 2026 and Best Specialized Hospitals 2026.
