VANGUARD TO OPEN MAIDENHEAD STORAGE HUB WITH HISTORIC AIRCRAFT DISPLAY

Vanguard Self Storage has secured planning permission to convert a vacant office building in Maidenhead into its latest branch, marking the company’s tenth site in England and further strengthening its presence in the UK storage market.
The 50,000 sq. ft. property on Norreys Drive will be redeveloped into a 660-unit facility with 40,000 sq. ft. of net lettable space. The six-month refurbishment programme will deliver secure and versatile storage solutions tailored to businesses and residents across Maidenhead.
As with other Vanguard locations, the new site will feature a striking historical centrepiece. A de Havilland Vampire aircraft, currently under restoration, will be installed in the atrium – the second in Vanguard’s collection following the aircraft displayed at its Bath branch, which opened earlier this year.
The facility will include three floors of storage units in a range of sizes, a triple-height reception showcasing the restored aircraft, indoor loading bays, two 3.5-tonne Kone lifts, staff and customer facilities, and 24 dedicated parking spaces. Sustainability has also been built into the scheme, with plans for a 100 kWp rooftop solar PV system, energy-efficient lighting, EV charging points, and cycle parking. Enhanced security measures will include individually alarmed and electronically locked storage units, 24/7 CCTV coverage, automated sliding gates, and full perimeter fencing. Staff will be on site during all customer access hours.
The Maidenhead branch is also expected to boost the local economy. Vanguard anticipates creating new jobs directly and indirectly, with evidence from its Bristol branch showing such facilities can support more than 100 jobs in related businesses.
Will McCullagh, Managing Director of Vanguard Self Storage, said: “Maidenhead is a natural next step for us. It’s a rapidly growing, affluent town that has benefited from the introduction of the Elizabeth Line, improving connectivity to London and the surrounding region. Its mix of businesses and residents makes it an ideal location for a modern, secure storage facility, and we’re looking forward to bringing Vanguard’s high standards of service to the community in early 2026.”
The expansion underlines Vanguard’s strategy of combining practical storage solutions with distinctive architectural and cultural features, cementing its reputation as one of the UK’s leading independent storage providers.
