THE SUN SHINES AGAIN: URBAN PUBS AND BARS UNVEILS £1M REVAMP OF CAMBERWELL FAVOURITE

Reopening marks major investment in food, garden space, and community hospitality
Urban Pubs and Bars, the capital’s largest independent pub and dining group, has announced the reopening of The Sun of Camberwell following a six-week closure and a £1 million refurbishment.
Reopening on Friday 6 June, the beloved Coldharbour Lane pub returns with a host of upgrades designed to enhance both its culinary credentials and community atmosphere. The transformation includes a completely overhauled kitchen, redesigned front terrace, and extensively landscaped rear garden — now one of the largest pub gardens in the Camberwell area.
Located just a short walk from Camberwell Green and Loughborough Junction, The Sun has long served as a neighbourhood fixture. Its latest iteration blends laid-back charm with elevated dining and outdoor social spaces, positioning it as a standout venue for the summer season and beyond.
The newly installed open kitchen will anchor a seasonal British menu focused on premium produce from acclaimed suppliers such as HG Walter. Among the highlights: a modern take on the Sunday roast, featuring a sharing lamb shoulder, and a refined selection of pub classics and small plates. “The Sun is one of our most cherished neighbourhood pubs, and we’re excited to be investing in its future,” said Chris Hill, Managing Director at Urban Pubs and Bars.
“The upgraded kitchen and garden areas, alongside a strong food-led offer, reflect our commitment to providing great hospitality in great spaces. We’re looking forward to welcoming our guests back this June.”
Designed with summer socialising and casual dining in mind, the revamped rear garden offers ample space for weekend drinks, alfresco meals and community gatherings. The refreshed front terrace now acts as a warm, street-facing welcome point for guests arriving off the high street.
The venue remains open seven days a week, maintaining its reputation as a hub for drinks, dining, and private celebrations. The Parlour, a dedicated space available for private hire, accommodates up to 40 guests and offers direct access to both the bar and garden — making it a prime spot for birthdays, casual parties and local events.
Urban Pubs and Bars, known for revitalising some of London’s most-loved venues, continues to prioritise community engagement and neighbourhood hospitality with this latest investment. The reopening of The Sun of Camberwell adds another flagship location to its growing portfolio of premium, independent pubs across the capital.
