Chery, parent company of the recently launched OMODA brand, has set a new Guiness World Record for the longest distance driven by a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) under a full fuel tank and full battery without recharging. Chery’s Fulwin T10 SUV model covered more than 1,304 miles, surpassing the previous record by an impressive 186 miles.
The Fulwin T10, a brand-new D-segment SUV available in China, started its record attempt on 17 July in Shangri-La City in northwestern Yunnan province, travelling via Kunming and Zhanjiang before finally running out of fuel in Zhuhai in China’s southern Guangdong province. The T10 was driven for three days on public roads in real traffic conditions, with a mix of both city and motorway driving.
The record-winning vehicle was powered by Chery’s Super Hybrid C-DM plug-in hybrid system, which delivers a maximum system output of 455 kW (610 PS) and maximum torque of 960 Nm in the four-wheel drive variant, and 280 kW (375 PS) and 610 Nm of torque in the front-wheel drive version.
The hybrid system features a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine and up to three electric motors, with the combustion engine delivering 115 kW (154 hp) and 220 Nm of torque. The CATL-supplied battery pack boasts a 34.46 kWh capacity, enabling an electric-only range of up to 210 km, according to China’s CLTC testing cycle. The system offers both rapid and slow charging capabilities.
The new Guiness World Record underlines Chery’s engineering prowess as one of the longest established Chinese car manufacturers. Currently, Chery has eight major R&D centres in regions including North America, South America, and Europe, to support its global growth plans. As of the end of 2023, Chery has filed more than 29,000 patents, with in excess of 18,000 patents granted, positioning itself at the forefront of the automotive industry.
Chery has introduced OMODA & JAECOO across 20 markets, accumulating 280,000 sales in just 15 months, and in doing so, has become the fastest-growing automotive brand in the world. Over a three-month period in 2024, the dual-brand consistently surpassed 20,000 units, contributing 20.8% to the Group’s total export volume.
The UK is the newest addition to OMODA & JAECOO’s expanding list of retail markets. The petrol-powered OMODA 5 starts from £25,235, while the all-electric OMODA E5 is available from £33,055. Chery will offer variations of its record-breaking PHEV technology in upcoming OMODA & JAECOO models.
